If you are just beginning your social media journey and need some of the basic information, these tips should come in very handy.

Created at the University of Southern California, MySocialCloud has grown into a well established business that is eager to bring ease and simplicity to the web experience. Having previously been introduced to Stacey and Scott of MySocialCloud and having secured funding from Richard Branson, we thought it would be perfect to ask Stacey of MySocialCloud to give us her top tips on starting out with social media...

"If you're just beginning your journey with social media, it may seem a little bit daunting. There are millions of articles about how to create the best company blog, how to build better SEO, and how to effectively use Facebook Ad campaigns. But before you jump right in and risk drowning in the deep depths of social media, here are some tips to get you started that have helped me in building my business' social media brand:

1. Secure Brand Identity - When you're first starting out, its important that you secure your company's username across all social media platforms. If you refrain from acquiring your username on a website like Tumblr, Flickr and Wordpress and someone else decides to use your brand's name to post about bad experiences or unrelated material, you risk the loss of control over your brand's identity online.

 2. Focus on your Niche - Determine your niche and where your audience spends time looking for solutions to their problems. Position your brand there. You may think you'd like to reach a large audience for your brand by buying a Facebook or Twitter Ad, but chances are people aren't looking for your solution on Facebook or Twitter (that's where people go to connect with other people - not to online shop). if you're a company focusing on selling baby products, it may be more worth your time to buy an ad on a website like Parenting.com.
