Starting a New Business: How to Create Clientele

by Startacus Admin
Getting customers for your new business is key to its success. These basic tips will help you help you build that all-important customer base.
Arguably the most important aspect of any business’s success is its customer base. If you cannot attract customers to your business, you are going to have a very difficult time staying operational. Instead of waiting for customers to just stumble upon your company, there are different strategies that you can utilize to create a clientele for your new business.
Ask For Referrals
When someone likes your business’s product or service, they’re likely to tell their friends and family about it. This can be one of the best ways to gain new business, but it can also take a long time. If you don’t want to wait around for customers to make referrals on their own, you can take charge and create incentives for them to tell the people in their lives about your business.
There are lots of ways that you can build a referral-generating system within the sales process of your company. For example, after a customer has received their order you can send an automated follow-up email asking them to make a referral. This is a great way to take initiative instead of waiting for people to make a referral on their own.
Network
Word-of-mouth is one of the oldest, but most effective methods for getting new customers. There are lots of industry-relevant networking events and organizations that you can participate in. when you are attending a networking event, it is helpful to put your customers first, meaning you should go in thinking “how can this experience help me help others”. By speaking to people at these events as well as learning from them, you’ll be able to get your name out there and find new ways to improve your business for new and repeat customers.
Partner With Complementary Businesses
Depending on your business’s industry, there are probably a lot of companies that have a similar customer base as you. If you don’t sell the same products or services as a company, but you attract the same customers you can strategize with this business on taking advantage of each other’s customers. You will have an opportunity to market your business to their customer base, and they’ll have the same opportunity with yours. For example, if you own a baby products company, you could partner with a maternity clothing store and offer discounts and deals to each other’s customers.
Offer Deals for New Customers
Introductory deals and discounts can be a great way to attract people to your business. They will be lured in by the fact that they can save some money and give your service or product a try. After they have tried it, they will be more likely to become a repeat customer. Additionally, once someone has made a purchase from your business once, you can use their contact information to send marketing messages encouraging them to make another purchase with you. It is a great, low-risk way to make sales and expand your marketing reach.
Participate in Community Events
Many people like to support local small businesses, so you could have a potential customer base right in your backyard. Participating in local events and becoming an important part of the community will encourage people to visit your business and hopefully make purchases. You can easily host fundraisers or donation drives for local charities. Not only will this reflect positively on you, but it can also bring a lot of people right to your business’s door.
