Suspense built somewhat….

We can announce that the Self Starter of  the Year winner is…..

- Jennifer Duthie -

Jennifer Duthie won, not only because she was a cracking candidate for the prize in the first place but because Jennifer’s pitch focused on a few things that really madeSelf Starter of the Year us consider her a standout self starter.

  • Firstly that her company Skribbies has built a strong footwear brand and product from scratch despite having no previous experience in the fashion or footwear industry.
  • Secondly this has all been done on a pretty tight budget, through self learning and by not giving up at the first, or second hurdle...
  • Thirdly, Jennifer and her team’s hard work is paying off - Skribbies will soon be stocked by a major UK retailer and there are global plans. Pretty impressive within 6 months of trading!
  • Finally, Jennifer ain’t sitting on her laurels - she plans to use the £1k consumer market research prize to go towards researching whether it’d be a wise business move to create an adult range of Skribbies shoes!
  • This certainly has shown ourselves and Marketest that although they get lots of people enquiring about adult sizes, the Skribbies team really understand the need for solid market research before jumping in with two feet!

Jennifer, Founder of Skribbies, really is a worthy winner - we hope you agree.

Well done too and major credit to all the other Self Starters who pitched for the fab Marketest prize and title. You’re all fab!

Integral to both the overall award and the judging, Sarah Elton of Marketest said that:

“Marketest have been thrilled to be part of Startacus Self Society; encouraging entrepreneurs to get some support and share their business idea. The award was all about giving self starters the opportunity to showcase their current business achievements and reward them with further market research for which they can use to grow. The majority of the Self Starter of the Week winners entered in their pitch, so there was certainly some tough competition. However, both team Startacus and Marketest eventually came to a decision.

SkribbiesJennifer Duthie’s fantastic brand ‘Scribbies’ won us over with her creative and educational kid’s product. Marketest look forward to working with her on the market research project she chooses to conduct with us and wish all the other Self Starter of the Week winners the best of luck with their future business ventures.”

So finally a big congratulations to Jennifer Duthie! We can’t wait to hear how it all goes with Marketest’s £1k market research prize - we’ll be keeping you all updated with Skribbies’ progress going forward.

If you missed out this year - don’t worry - the 2014 Self Starter of the Week and Year awards will be coming back in the next month or so.

Keep an eye out for all the launch details coming soon!
