Stairway builds STEM learning experience that counts

by Startacus Admin

Stairway, the startup that's on a mission to build the best STEM learning experience and to inspire the next generation of STEM learners, starting with Maths!

Of course, a teacher can’t spare the time in a class full of students to find different ways to explain the same thing to different people, and they aren’t immune to falling into that same trap of thinking that the student is just a bit dim. This can have obvious negative effects on the student’s self-esteem and put them at a disadvantage going forward through school and, depending on their career interests, beyond.
London-based edtech startup Stairway is joining the likes of Kinteract and Developing Experts as an emerging platform for enabling more personalised learning at the student’s own pace.
The Stairway platform levels the playing field for all students learning maths, and delivers personalised maths lessons on demand. In order to keep up engagement, there is a degree of gamification to the platform, with experience points being added for correct answers to questions and bonus XP for streaks of correct answers. This helps to keep the student feeling rewarded for their progression in a similar way to a simple positive reinforcement from the teacher upon getting an answer right in class.
Stairway covers the whole GCSE syllabus across all major exam boards, in step-by-step lessons. It learns about you while you learn about maths, ensuring that you are always given something at the right level for you, and its intuitive interface helps you to focus on learning, and encourages you to build your learning habit.
Just this month, Stairway announced that they have raised £1 million in a seed round led by Connect Ventures. This funding will be used to expand their range of content, building new features to enhance the learning experience and pushing towards their mission of improving access to STEM learning. Because STEM is the goal of this startup, not only maths.
So we look forward to seeing the day that every STEM subject is reflected on the platform and it achieves its potential of driving more interest into that area.
