Social Media Week 2014 preview

by Startacus Admin
As many of you know, one of the core aims of Startacus is to connect people (aka Self Starters) and their ideas with the people, places and services that can help take said ideas forward. And likewise as this is a core aim of this year’s Social Media Week we’re taking a keen interest in all the happenings at this 6th such event. The biannual event is back on our horizon again running from the 17th – 21st February.
It will cover everything to do with social media - from advertising to business development through to science, society and environment. There are events taking place across the globe in cities such as Bangalore, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Madrid, Lagos, Milan, New York and Tokyo. If you can’t make it to any of these destinations, then fear not!! You can still be part of the event.
This year’s theme is ‘The Future Of Now, Always On, Always Connected.’ This really emphasises the point of what is being achieved with Social Media Week - it is about connecting people and sharing ideas, collaborating so to speak. Nowadays we are more in touch with the world than ever before. For those of us that may be starting with an office in our house, it is now so easy to be connected with the four corners of the world. Social Media Week is about making us a global workstation, and exploring the social, cultural and economic impact of social media.
Here are a few of the events that we here at Startacus are excited about:
Monday 17th in New York, 6.30pm - 8.30pm
Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself; Finding Recognition Online for Your Career. This takes a look at the way you should treat your online presence.
Also that day in New York from 7pm - 10pm there is the 3rd annual Beer Pong Tournament. All funds raised will be donated to Charity Water, a non-profit organisation bringing clean water to developing nations. #smwbeerpong
In Copenhagen, from 11am -12pm, Social Media Trends 2014. This is a look at some of the major trends for the year ahead.
On the 20th in Milan, from 5pm - 7pm, Bitcoin: The Internet Of Money. This takes a look at our new online currency.
If you are not lucky enough to live in any of the cities the events are happening, - don’t panic! You can connect via the Social Media Week app, and sign up for live streamed access to the events. Last year over one million connected via video link, so there are no excuses for you not to!
The Social Media Week is breaking down the barrier of geography. It is where humanity and technology are meeting, covering everything from wearable tech to deep sea exploration. Creating unique opportunities globally with over 800 events - what will you experience?
So if you have an innovative idea or just simply want to know more about social media - then this is where to start.. #socialmedia
