Social Media Week 2013 (part 1)
It may seem that Social Media Week can come and go every few months or something, but then again, Social Media Week is a biannual global event so perhaps that’s why...
That this Global event to continues to grow in importance, just goes to prove exactly how important Social Media and the power of your social message actually can be.
Part 1 of this year’s Social Media Week happens Feb 18 - 22. What does that mean for you?
Well, unless you are based or living near to Copenhagen, Hamburg, Lagos, Miami, Milan, New York, Paris, Singapore, Tokyo, or Washington DC the chances of you going to an actual event or happening is pretty slim.
(It’s at this point that Startacus makes an impromptu call out... Of course we’d be happy to go to any of the above places or spaces should some well meaning millionaire care to offer us a few first class tickets, but we digress...)
In essence, the whole point about Social Media and its respective Social Media Week is the fact that Social Media is available to us all. No longer must you act local (even if you are working from the home made office in your garage).
In 2013, Social Media Week celebrates its 5th year of operation and intends to mark this milestone with a unifying global theme that will explore openness in a connected and collaborative world.
So self starters, wherever you are based - get on it. Act on the themes of collaboration and connectivity - share your thoughts and best practice for using social media and using the media opportunity that Social Media Week gives you to spread the word about your new startup or your innovative idea.
A good starting place perhaps would be to ‘like’ the the Social Media Week facebook page, follow ‘them’ on their Twitter (also use the hashtag #SMW13 if you have any specific Social Media themed posts to share) and get ready to watch some of the youtube videos that will be uploaded based on the events. And of course, feel free to share this post as well :)
But most of all, with the Social Media World often watching - make the most of it...
