Social marketplace for local help Helpfulpeeps looks to the crowd

by Startacus Admin

With over 180,000 registered Helpfulpeeps members, award-winning social marketplace Helpfulpeeps is crowdfunding on Seedrs, with over 80% of their target reached on the first day.
Helpfulpeeps is a social marketplace for local help - we've followed their journey on Startacus for the last few years.
Now with over 180,000 registered members across iOS, Android and web, they are aiming to build the future of local services by using technology to match those who would like help with those most likely to provide it nearby.
And, with 64% of Britons now using the sharing economy by tapping into resources that could not be effectively organised before, Helpfulpeeps is uniquely positioned to provide access to the “human cloud” by giving everyone the ability to tap into the vast array of skills available in their local communities. So far, Helpfulpeeps members have asked for help over 35,000 times and in the last 12 months, 88% of those requests have been responded to.
“In a social media dominated world that is designed to convince people to spend more time online, we wanted to create a platform that enables people to connect and help each other in the real world” says Saf Nazeer, co-founder of Helpfulpeeps.
It’s an exciting time for the startup as they evolve from an online platform for communities to trade favours to a more sophisticated marketplace based on user demand.
To make this happen, they have already raised significant investment from a dozen angel investors including a former CEO of M&S, former VP of Global Growth at eBay and co-founder of the Photobox Group. Now they have decided to partner with Seedrs with a view to inviting their members and the wider crowd to share in their success, reaching 83% of their investment target on the first day of going live.
A big high-5 to Saf, Dominic, Simon and the rest of the Helpfulpeeps team - it's been great to follow your progress to date...
