Smart City Innovation Testbed hunts for post-pandemic new normal tech

by Startacus Admin

The Smart City Innovation Testbed is on the hunt for startups that can demonstrate how technology can have a profound and positive impact on how we all adapt and thrive in a post-pandemic world
Smart City Innovation Testbed is a unique technology accelerator with a focus on human to human services enhanced by technology. Delivered by global tech accelerator UP Ventures in partnership with Media CityUK and Connected Places Catapult, the programme aims to show how in our post-pandemic world, technology can be used to have a meaningful and positive impact on how people adapt and most importantly thrive.
The accelerator is seeking startups with products or services that can currently, or with some development, address the following questions:
- What is the role of places where we live, work, play and learn in the future?
- How can places evolve and adapt to encourage meaningful interaction and creativity?
- How can technology enhance safety in existing and new building design?
- Can technology positively enhance future business models for small and large-scale developments and the organisations they support?
Open for applications until 23rd October 2020, this 12-week programme will provide startups with the opportunity to test and demonstrate their innovative products and services. This action-based programme has a primary aim of helping those startups show how they can create value and produce tangible outcomes in a real-world environment.
During the programme, applicants will participate in a range of learning events and avail of practical opportunities, as well as engaging directly with relevant experts provided by UP, Catapult and MediaCityUK. The successful cohort will also undertake masterclasses and engage with key industry leaders and investors.
Applications are currently being sought from UK-based startups that have a demonstrable product that can be piloted in a structured way in collaboration with 3rd parties. Startups must be able to commit to the 12 week programme which will be delivered online or in person, if guidance permits. Startups must also have the resources to make any rapid improvements to their product or service that may be required during the programme.
Although businesses from across the UK can apply, they should ideally show an interest and commitment in working or expanding in the North West.
The programme is due to start on 13th January and will run until 10th April. Successful applicants will be expected to commit to up to 6 hours per week of workshops and engagement with partners and this will be online. This is a fully funded programme and there is no requirement for any equity exchange from participants.
Best of luck to all who apply!
