London-based startup Skarper has developed an innovative solution that lets you transform any bike into an eBike in one click.

skarper pic.The rise in popularity of e-bikes might not be anything too staggering, but the e-bike market is projected to be worth over $40 billion by 2030 (significantly more, depending on what research you look at), so it’s also nothing to sniff at either. There are some problems with e-bikes and their accessibility, however - namely the price and the bulkiness. E-bikes can be expensive, but they can also be a lot heavier and more cumbersome than a normal bike, which is perhaps why their sales haven’t overtaken that of normal bikes. But surely, we hear you say, there can’t possibly be a way to get around these terrible barriers to e-bike ownership?! Well, there is something you can do! You can Skarper.

London-based startup Skarper has a way that you can keep your lightweight bicycle and still enjoy the benefits of an e-bike. The Skarper device is an e-bike drive system that simply clicks on and clicks off, and drives the bike through the rear disc brake with its patented DiskDrive technology. They say that this is a first of its kind, and it can transform any bike into a high-performance e-bike and back in seconds. The device is small, ultralight, and easy to install and uninstall so that you can detach it and take it with you whenever you need to leave the bike anywhere, thus keeping it safe from theft.

As someone who has always been passionate about getting people out and about on bikes, Skarper is a disruptive technology that he’s excited to help bring to market.

Skarper recently announced that they had raised £4 million in funding, less than a year after raising another £4 million. This funding round, led by the Starry Group and Mobilitech Capital, with participation from business angels, is allowing the startup to accelerate and scale their route to market. With this impressive funding and the interest they have received from around the world, the next step for the startup is to have Skarper as a standard addition to bikes straight from the factory.
