SHIFT - empowering women and girls to feel safe

SHIFT is a Danish startup that's creating a range of bluetooth connected jewellery that doubles as a safety device.
With the rise of harassment and violence against women and girls in society, it can often be extremely frightening for females to do everyday things such as walking alone or walking back from a friend’s house at night. Of course this shouldn't be the case at all, but the fact remains that it is a very real and concerning issue.
In a bid to try to address this, SHIFT is a startup aiming to make a real difference, in a number of ways. Firstly, it is creating a range of jewellery, with each piece referred to as a symbol. This jewellery doubles as a safety device, in that it connects via bluetooth to the wearer’s phone via the SHIFT app. The app can be shared with friends and family and a network of symbol owners and their friends and families is then created.
If someone is in a situation where they don’t feel safe, they can use the jewellery to activate their symbol and send an alert to this network of app users. Those nearby can then provide support and safely intervene.
In addition, the SHIFT community aims to be a space where men and boys are actively involved in discussions and in creating solutions that can address underlying issues and bring about a real change in culture.
