Screach - sports streaming innovation

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on Screach, the Newcastle-based startup that has created a live sports streaming and advertising platform specifically for commercial venues
Walk into any bar in the world, and there’s a good chance that some kind of sports event is playing on a TV somewhere inside. Similarly, most hotels and gyms will have some TVs dotted about, and it might make some wonder, how much are they paying to play TV for their customers and how much extra advertising space are they missing out on because there’s nothing but the TV channel on-screen?
Newcastle-based startup Screach has developed a cloud-based platform that allows venues such as bars, cafés, gyms, and hotels to stream live sports to their customers. Not only does the platform stream sports, but it allows the venue to have picture-in-picture advertising, so while people are watching the football, they are also seeing the venue’s drinks deals or upcoming bootcamp programme or whatever the venue wants to display. This can be used as advertising or as a menu or list of services. And if the venue doesn’t have anything to display, they can add third-party adverts, which generate some revenue.
As commercial venues reopen and we’re allowed to - carefully - go out again, rights holders have the opportunity once again to get their content to people outside of their homes and extend their reach to people who might otherwise not watch. And they can do so by bypassing traditional broadcasters, instead going direct to the customer.
The terms are more flexible than usual subscription packages, and are not one size fits all, allowing venues to have far more control over what they are showing to their customers.
The app is already available in 157 countries, an expansion aided by their $2 million of investment. Their initial launch was with Premier Sports, offering over 1,500 sports events every season, but they are expecting to announce new partnerships in the coming months.
