save your wardrobe.

Fashion sustainability - London-based Save Your Wardrobe is on a mission to help you reconnect with the contents of your wardrobe and extend the lifecycle of your items.

/syw imageWe have written many times in the past about the damage that the fashion industry has on the environment, not to mention the exploitation of workers. Whether it’s Uptrade tackling fabric waste, Resortecs enabling textile recycling, By Rotation taking on fast fashion, there are many startups that have sprung up to combat the negative effects of the fashion industry while bolstering the positive ones.

syw2Fast fashion is particularly bad, because it means a continuous production of new lines based on what’s trendy in the moment; and we all know that trends come and go as quickly as…a really good metaphor. Fast fashion means the usual pollution of atmosphere, water, and ground, but at a faster rate than normal, and at the end of it, more garments are ending up in landfills, being buried or burned. It’s no wonder the fashion industry is one of the most significant polluters in the world.

London-based startup Save Your Wardrobe is another that is trying to change the way clothes we wear are treated after we’re done with them. Founded in 2017, this startup has built an app for people in need of repairs or alteration to garments, eco dry cleaning, donations, and responsible shopping, all in one place, on demand. This ostensibly simple system allows you to extend the life of your clothes and keep them from landfills by either ensuring they remain wearable for you or passing them on to someone else if you no longer want them. It also helps support local businesses and entrepreneurs providing these services, which is always a good thing.

In 2022, Save Your Wardrobe raised the UK’s biggest circular wardrobe platform investment with a $3 million seed round, and over 800,000 items of clothing have been added to more than 160,000 users’ digital wardrobes. This funding is being used to scale their B2B offering, build their domestic operations, expand into Europe, and grow their team.
