REWIND< Are Cassette Tapes set for a Tech Renaissance?

by Startacus Admin

Check out Elbow, a new cassette player concept, aimed at restoring the glory of the good ol’ fashioned cassette tape.
If video killed the radio star, then CD killed the cassette, and MP3 the CD...(kinda). Ugh, you get what we mean. But nostalgia, on the other hand, doesn’t kill anything, but simply brings it back to life, reinvents it, and makes it current again.
Step forward ELBOW, a new cassette player concept, that is wonderfully minimalistic in design and if all goes according to plan - and is developed past prototype stage, could start the renaissance period for the gold ‘ol fashioned cassette tape.
ELBOW was first conceived by the audiovisual art duo BrainMonk as a fanciful pet project. The designers wanted to create something immediate and tactile. For the life-long music fans, a cassette player seemed like the perfect project to stretch creative muscles and innovate.
ELBOW's design concept, which condensed the portable cassette tape player to literally it's bare bones , has to date, been well received by the design community, cassette tape aficionados and media sites, who’ve like us, been sharing their short promo video that cleverly demonstrates its aesthetic, but somehow retro design (See below).
Now at prototype stage, ELBOW are currently working out the physical and cost realities of the project going forward.
ELBOW aka BrainMonk - we like the concept a lot, and hope to see this conceptual project hitting the shelves and online stores sometime soon…
