Junk Kouture opens registrations for its 2022 competition and continues its partnership with RTÉ to showcase Ireland's young creatives
We recently shone a light on the fabulous Junk Kouture, the Irish platform that's on a mission to unleash the creative brilliance of young people and we’re delighted to share the good news that registrations are now open for their Junk Kouture 2022 competition!
Teachers of young creatives aged between 13 – 18 in Ireland who think they’ve got what it takes, can now register their school for the 2022 competition. Live regional finals are set to take place in venues across Ireland, followed by a national final in Dublin. There will also be 10 coveted spots to compete at the Junk Kouture World Final later in the year.
Ahead of that though, Junk Kouture will once again be partnering with RTÉ to bring the design contest to the small screen. The 2021 Grand Final will be televised on RTÉ, enabling audiences throughout the country to see the work of the talented young creatives whose designs made entirely out of recycled and discarded materials epitomise the importance of using creativity to promote sustainability and climate consciousness.
The 2021 finalists will have to impress a star-studded panel of judges which includes best-selling cookbook author, entrepreneur and fashion- upcycling enthusiast Roz Purcell, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race Michelle Visage, TV personality and music manager Louis Walsh and former winner and fashion designer Stephen McLaughlin.
CEO of Junk Kouture Troy Armour said: “The RTÉ broadcast opens the world of Junk Kouture to new viewers, beaming the creative talents and innovation of Ireland’s young people into the sitting rooms of Ireland - and around the globe to our new territories with the RTÉ Player - so it is with great anticipation and excitement that the team plan for all that is to come with RTÉ back on board for another year. This builds on our commitment to young creatives and teachers to carry out a grand final despite the absence of live events this year and affords them the opportunity to continue the annual celebration of young Irish creative talent and sustainable innovation. We are also delighted to welcome back Louis, Michelle and Stephen and are looking forward to seeing what new judge Roz brings to the table as they crown the 11 th annual winner of Junk Kouture!”
In addition to this, thanks to the ongoing support from Creative Ireland, Junk Kouture is also continuing to develop its online education resources to ensure that students and educators alike can avail of educational material around the company’s three areas of focus – creativity, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
We love what the fab folk at Junk Kouture are doing and if you’re not already familiar with them, we reckon you will too. We can’t wait to see the innovative creations at the live final later in the year!
