Quit Genius - the app to help smokers quit

by Startacus Admin
Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things to do outside of a Rubik’s Cube. The addictive substances, the habit, and the fact that most people don’t want to quit smoking, per se, but rather quit the damage to their health all conspire to make quitting seem impossible for a lot of people - in fact, only 3% succeed in quitting.
Broad methods of quitting aren’t going to work for everyone, so the best system for helping you quit is one that is tailored to you. That is where Quit Genius comes in.
Quit Genius is a London-based startup that offers the world’s first digital cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) programme to help smokers quit being smokers.
The programme is tailored to the user so that you can work at your own pace with the smartphone app and has been developed by experts in the field, using evidence-based cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness techniques. CBT takes into account your thoughts and feelings regarding quitting, such as the cycle of negativity that can come from repeated failed attempts.
By replacing these with a positive way of thinking about the process, the cognitive aspect of CBT helps you be more mentally prepared to quit. The behavioural aspect helps you to identify the behaviours that encourage smoking (like reaching for a cigarette when nervous or to smoke with morning coffee, etc.) and replace them with positive and healthy behaviours.
By adding in a gamification element to the programme, Quit Genius makes the process less laborious and less like hard work. Streak counts, challenges, and trophies accompany the bite-sized steps to this 8-week programme, adding a little fun to the mix.
Quit Genius was recently announced as the Duke of York’s Pitch@Palace 8.0 People’s Choice awardee - a well-deserved honour for a startup doing so much to help with an important struggle faced by 68% of smokers.
