Phlo - the digital pharmacy that delivers to you

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on Phlo, the Glasgow-based startup that's on a mission to provide patients with faster, easier and more convenient access to their medication.
Like many sectors, pharmacies have been experiencing problems with workforce shortages, operating costs, rising prices, and by 2024, it’s predicted that as many as 30,000 highstreet pharmacies will be closed down. This is bad for two obvious groups of people: employees and customers. People need somewhere to get their prescriptions, and not everyone is able to travel to the next closest pharmacy once their local branch has closed its doors. So what can be done to ensure that people retain access to their vital medication?
Glasgow-based medtech startup Phlo has built a digital pharmacy to assist with this. Using Phlo, people will be able to keep up with their prescriptions by ordering them online, through the app, and having them delivered straight to their door. This will help prevent people failing to take their medication due to pharmacy closures, unforeseen incidents preventing them getting to a pharmacy, or simply putting off going to get their prescription, ensuring that it is easier for the 50% of the population who don’t take their medication correctly to start doing so.
The app is easy to set up and start using. All you need to do is fill in your profile details, add your GP’s details, and you are ready to start requesting your medication. When you select the prescription you need, the app will check with your GP, and once it’s approved, you can put in the order, to be delivered within 4 hours in London and Birmingham, or 24-48 hours across the UK. You can even select the date and time of delivery that suits you. And if you need any assistance, you can talk with Phlo’s pharmacist team by live chat, phone, or email.
When we first wrote about Phlo in 2018, they had only launched in London, but since then, they have sent out over 110,000 orders across the UK. This has no doubt helped with their recent £10 million funding in a Series A round led by Thairm Bio, with participation from Scottish Enterprise and angel investors. This funding will be used in Phlo’s scaling efforts.
