Patient tracking innovation thanks to Tracworx

by Startacus Admin

The Irish medtech startup Tracworx, that's on a mission to make patient tracking easier for health professionals...
Hospitals are places where errors can literally be life or death, yet human error can result in data for patients being recorded incorrectly or even not being recorded at all. Due to this same human error or even simply a lack of paper trail, nursing hours are wasted searching for what is needed, be it those records, equipment, or even patients themselves.
In an environment where time is particularly precious and no one can afford errors in reporting, perhaps the system needs a shake up and something new and automated needs to be employed.
Limerick-based medtech startup Tracworx has developed a system to provide patient flow efficiency reporting through automated, real-time, data analytics.
The watch-size device is placed on a patient’s wrist at admission and then each stage of their care, and the time spent there, is recorded automatically by the device and fed into the database so that staff can see this data, and the patient’s location in real-time.
The system can be customised for things like sending automatic alerts if a patient has spent too long in a particular stage of care, bringing to light potential issues before they escalate. Tracworx requires no additional infrastructure to work, and is low cost to install in the hospital, on its existing Wi-Fi network.
In early November, Tracworx won the Munster regionals of InterTradeIreland’s Seedcorn Competition in the Early-Stage Company category, netting them €20,000 and a trip to the finals in late November. There, Tracworx beat our recently featured startup Thriftify to the Seedcorn Comp €100,000 cash prize.
A system that improves efficiency and reduces the amount of error in patient care in hospitals, while simultaneously making overworked staff’s lives a little bit easier, is hugely important. We think we’ll see it take off if we’re just...wait...patient.
