Overwatch - scientific research management made easy

by Startacus Admin
Overwatch Research is aiming to transform how scientific researchers manage their experiments while collaborating with their colleagues through open data and intelligent services.
Currently, billions of pounds are going to waste each year because less than half of medical studies undertaken in the preclinical stage are reproducible in humans. The categories of this irreproducibility are biological reagents and reference materials, study design, data analysis and reporting, and laboratory protocols.
It may not be immediately obvious to the non-scientific layperson who doesn’t spend their day in a lab, but these are not all unsurpassable obstacles. So there must be a way to get around this irreproducibility...
Just launched, Belfast-based Overwatch has created an intelligent digital platform to accelerate the design and customisation of these studies whilst providing powerful analysis and reporting capabilities.
By doing so, they say it addresses 53.1% of the aforementioned problems; namely the study design and data analysis and reporting categories.
The Overwatch platform reduces costs associated with the preclinical stage of drug development and it reduces error by eliminating human input, meaning that experiments don’t have to be repeated unnecessarily. Part of this is its support of digital measuring instruments such as bluetooth calipers, removing the need for human data input and the risks that is open to.
Overwatch works on any device, enabling researchers and contracting bodies to log in from anywhere at any time to see how a study is progressing and be immediately notified of crucial milestones reached throughout.
Made in Northern Ireland, the startup has just completed the inaugural Ignite NI accelerator programme and has gained backing from NI fund, Techstart NI and NI science park, Catalyst Inc.
A platform that saves time throughout the drug development process, accelerating patient access to drugs, and eliminating so much wastage can only be good.
Currently in beta with Queen’s University Belfast, and Axisbio Discovery Services, we expect to see the name Overwatch soon spread far and wide.
Early-stage startup based in NI or ROI? Startacus has teamed up with the inaugural Innovation Nation 2018 to deliver Ascend, an all-Ireland tech start-up pitch competition, where 10-12 early-stage startups will be given a platform to showcase their latest innovation. Find out more.
