òtító - the platform that's on a mission to fight misinformation

by Startacus Admin
òtító is a crowdsourced platform that's created a library of factual claims that helps you steer clear of misinformation and use evidence-based information instead
Lies and misinformation are among the biggest online threats at the moment. It can be difficult for anyone not actively staying on top of all the latest information about a subject to know what is true and what isn’t, especially when we know that even the mainstream media can’t always be trusted to be truthful and unbiased, playing into the hands of those spreading ‘alternative’ information. Some social media sites have started doing the bare minimum to warn people against misinformation, but we need something more.
British crowdsourced platform òtító (which means ‘truth’) is designed to combat this misinformation epidemic with its library of current claims floating around, and sources to either validate or invalidate them.
Any claim made by users on a subject must come with a source providing evidence, which will contribute towards the topic’s status of ‘most validated’, ‘less validated’, or ‘unchallenged’ to give users an at-a-glance idea of whether the claim they are looking at has validity. Anyone providing false information or poor quality information will risk being removed as a contributor, maintaining the veracity of the claims and counter-claims. Everyone who views these articles can see the posted sources for themselves and validate them.
Users are incentivised to provide only factual information and quality sources through a karma system, where sufficient good karma will unlock additional features for users, while negative karma restricts their permissions. Trolling and personal attacks are guarded against by keeping all claims published anonymous. This also prevents their author’s own claim history and identity - or perceived identity - from affecting the way users think about their contributions.
In an increasingly manipulative and deceitful online environment, a platform like this could be of huge benefit, and we hope to see it used widely to help quell the flames of misinformation.
