Numan - the online clinic, built for men

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on Numan, the London-based startup and online clinic that's on a mission to help men to take control of their health and wellbeing
Currently, 3 out of 4 men will not go to a clinic for treatment when they are suffering a health issue, preferring to ‘tough it out’ or suffer in strong, manly silence. After all, that’s how decades, centuries, millenia of society have taught us men are supposed to behave - strong, not weak. Luckily, these days, what ‘weak’ and ‘strong’ actually mean is being reexamined by most men, and we are coming to the conclusion that perhaps it’s not quite what we’ve been told for so long. That perhaps, most relevant here, acknowledging a health issue and dealing with it head-on is not a weakness. With this overdue revelation, we need startups to come along with us.
Enter London-based health-tech startup Numan, an online clinic to help men with issues including erectile dysfunction, hair loss, and premature ejaculation.
It is one of the first startups to take a broader look at male-specific issues rather than focusing on one thing, such as infertility. Somewhat ironically, women are up to 85% more likely to use digital tools to aid their healthcare, yet most digital tools are based on male physiology - something we wrote about in regards to WILD.AI and their slogan ‘Women are not men’. So Numan’s main struggle is to overcome the stigma and outright stubbornness when it comes to men actually taking advantage of health tools available to them.
Numan is simple to use and bypasses one of the things stopping a lot of men from visiting clinics - embarrassment. You just complete a quick online consultation and Numan’s clinicians will provide an assessment on the same day, and if blood tests are required, you will be sent a kit to provide a sample.
You then have access to speak to the clinicians in more depth. If treatments, medicine, supplements, etc., are required, these are delivered for free, discreetly, with automatic refills. Treatment plans are personalised by clinicians and health experts, with whom you will have regular check-ins.
In October, Numan announced that it has raised €11m from investors including Novator, Anthemis Exponential, Colle Capital, and VNV Global. We are lucky to have a wide range of startups focused on women’s health, which are ever evolving and developing, and now we have startups like Numan to join them in this vitally important field.
