Mumbli - audio accessibility for all

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on London-based hearing wellness startup Mumbli and its mission to help businesses provide inclusive spaces for all hearing abilities and preferences.
We recently wrote about Deaf AI, a startup addressing the lacking support for people who need to speak in sign language when it comes to video calls and other digital interactions. Following on from this look into inclusivity around hearing, we are checking out a startup that is working to better support business in their attempts to be more inclusive for the more than one billion people who live with all kinds of hearing challenges, from deafness, to increased sensitivity to sounds, to those who may experience sensory overload.
London-based hearing wellness startup Mumbli is addressing the barrier that noise levels can be for a lot of people. In their words, “Our sound monitoring sensors help make venues accessible to all, including the 30% of the population with hearing reduction and those with tinnitus, autism or ADHD who may be sensitive to noise”.
Their platform is a noise monitoring system designed to help businesses and the public in four main areas: noise pollution, which they say is the second most harmful environmental health issue after air pollution; recreational noise pollution, which can lose businesses up to £20,000 every month in the UK; inaccessibility for people with hearing sensitivity; and the lack of awareness of how damaging noise levels can be on hearing health.
The system works by installing wireless monitoring devices, a little like smoke detectors, around the venue. These monitor sound levels, sending the data in real-time to the cloud. Crucially, the data is on sound levels only, and the system does not record anything, avoiding any breaches in privacy. The startup then analyses that data to produce actionable insights into the noise levels in each area of the venue, which allow for changes to be made to make it more accessible for everyone. This data can be viewed by the user as well, standalone or integrated into existing building operations systems. They also get a fancy label to put on their door to show that they’re certified by Mumbli and care about the wellbeing of their customers and staff.
Currently, Mumbli is running a Seedrs funding campaign, and is sitting (at the time of writing) at 90% of their goal. This seems to us like a great opportunity to support a startup making a positive impact on businesses and their customers.
