Muddy Trowel - making gardening simple, sustainable and joyful

by Startacus Admin
Muddy Trowel is a London-based startup that's on a mission to enable all plant lovers to learn more about gardening, regardless of the size of their outdoor space.
During lockdown, there have been 2 types of people: those who have been locked away for so long they’ve forgotten that nature exists, and those who discovered it and a love for it during the time they weren’t allowed to be in work or around other people. But being in nature and knowing how to make the most of your own little piece of it aren’t the same thing, and it would be useful to have people who know what they are doing help you to beautify your garden without calling in a gardener.
London-based e-commerce startup Muddy Trowel has arrived to help the 2.7 million people who took up gardening during the 2020 lockdown, and beyond. The aim of Muddy Trowel is to help anyone with little to no gardening experience to transform whatever outdoor space they have, with step-by-step guides for how to handle the plants they send you and how to take care of them.
As well as the useful guide, the kits include premium and long-lasting plants, recycled eco-pots, and peat-free compost and fertiliser. From colourful flowers for a window box, to olive trees, to Christmas trees, the startup has a wide range of plants, as well as extras such as watering cans and pots - with the ironic exception of trowels.
As well as these kits, the startup’s website has a learning section where you can find out more about taking care of your plants, and discover the different types of plants. You can also learn all about the startup’s commitment to sustainability, to the recycled materials used in their products, to the longevity of the plants and their nectar content for pollinating insects, to the omission of peat from their compost.
In November, Muddy Trowel announced that it had raised £1 million funding in a Seed round led by gardening care company Evergreen Garden Care, which will help them to scale their efforts further across the UK and beyond.
