By incorporating augmented reality into a robot, Reach Robotics aims to introduce a unique hybrid of virtual and MekaMonreal world play through next level robotics, gaming, and AR.

Reach Robotics, the Bristol based, augmented reality gaming company has announced that their flagship product MekaMon, the world’s first real-life gaming robot, is now available on Apple.com and selected Apple stores in the US and UK.

Reach Robotics was founded in 2013 by Silas Adekunle (CEO), Chris Beck (CTO) and John Rees (COO) to develop the next generation robotics platform that incorporates state of the art robotic engineering, mashed-up with mobile gaming and augmented reality. Funded by a number of the world’s leading investment companies, Reach Robotics is aiming to take robotics and gaming to the next level, determining the future of gaming by fusing robotics, reality-bending technology and competitive play.
Reach RoboticsAnd in MekaMon, comparisons could be made to Pokemon Go - but this looks like an entirely different experience, turning a sitting room into a robotic fight zone as the MekaMon robot goes to battle in front of you. An indication of the potential of MekaMon is reflected in the fact that on launch day it will be included in Apple’s Christmas gift guide.

By incorporating augmented reality into a robot, Reach Robotics aims to create a new branch of gaming – one that totally immerses the player by putting their four-legged robots into battle in both the physical and virtual worlds. Controlled entirely through an iOS or Android smart device, MekaMon aims to introduce a unique hybrid of virtual and real world play through next level robotics, gaming, and AR.

“We’ve created an entirely new video gaming platform,” said Silas Adekunle, CEO of Reach Robotics.

“MekaMon straddles both the real and virtual worlds while taking the gaming experience beyond a player’s screen and turning their sitting room into a limitless robotic battle zone. MekaMon represents a quantum leap forward in the leveraging of augmented reality. Players can whip out their smartphone to battle their multi-functional, connected battlebots in the physical and virtual worlds at the same time.”
