Match Funding Initiative means donations towards Grenfell Tower tragedy can be doubled
Since last week when news broke of the horrendous fire which quickly spread across Grenfell Tower, we’ve been wanting to help with the grassroots efforts that have been leading the way in supporting the Kensington residents.
With our growing online reach and links between both startups and corporate brands, many of which are based in London or at least the UK, we wondered how we could best reach out to our audience to communicate any initiate we might be able to support.
We are keen therefore to spread the word on TheBigGive.org.uk, an initiative, founded by Sir Alec Reed (of the Reed Employment / Recruitment family in 2007) which has, to date, helped to raise £82 million for UK-registered charities.
Since last Wednesday they have been running an appeal to support those affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
So why this appeal?
Via The Big Give, your donation to the Kensington & Chelsea Foundation will be doubled (up to £5k). For example, you donate £50, they'll donate £50 and so on.
How this works, is via Match Funding, a initiative that enables individual's donations to charities to be doubled. Match Funds come via philanthropists, entrepreneurs, businesses and corporates who see this as a beneficial way of increasing the impact of their philanthropy.
The Kensington and Chelsea Foundation was set up by local people to generate support for local charities in the
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. So far, via The Big Give, a whopping £1.6m+ has been raised to support the Grenfell Tower community, but we reckon we can all help a little in making sure that this figure continues to rise.
Working with donors, The Kensington and Chelsea Foundation ensures that funds are channelled to areas where they will be most effective, it monitors grants, provides donors with feedback and helps donors engage with charities they support. The funds raised via The Big Give will be used to provide emergency and ongoing support to Grenfell Tower residents and others affected directly as well as the local community.
The double donations opportunity will only remain an option while match funding capital remains, which is why we will also be pushing this article to philanthropists, corporates, and the general business community - some of whom we have relationships with and others, with whom we will engage too.
We encourage you to visit the Grenfell Tower donations page, to donate to the fund if you so wish, and to also spread word on this opportunity - to both your friends and neighbours and to the general business and entrepreneurial community.
Thank you to The Big Give for running this appeal too.
