make.work.space - tech-driven design solutions for the post-pandemic landscape

The lowdown on make.work.space, the startup that has created tech-driven bookable work pods complete with all the tools you need to work, rest or catch up on calls.
We have written a number of times about how different work looks for a lot of people on the tail end of this pandemic, with many businesses and employees realising that remote working can be (some businesses can find it hard to transition to remote working) no less productive and can also save a lot of money for both sides.
Recently, we wrote about Nooka Spaces, a startup building self-contained office spaces that can be placed just about anywhere they are needed. While there is still danger posed by the virus, separated workspaces like these aren’t just useful for remote work, either - plenty of businesses have set up pods and isolated spaces for employees within their offices so that they can work in safety.
London-based startup Make.Work.Space is launching their first product in a line of tech-driven solutions for this new hybrid working landscape. Their offering is a bookable work pod, designed with people’s health and wellbeing in mind, complete with all of the tools necessary for people to get work done, make an important call, host a meeting, or even just sit down and take a breather. These pods will be available at public locations such as train stations, shopping centres, and other public buildings and can be easily booked through an app, which will also lock and unlock the pods and control settings such as temperature and light.
The pods boast high-speed WiFi, a built-in camera and microphone for video calls, a folding desk and second chair, storage space, screen projector, second LCD monitor, UV lights to disinfect between uses, ventilation systems to filter air, and all the outlets someone could need for any device.
As well as wellbeing, the pod is built for sustainability, with low-carbon steel tubing, which will be welded by local experts upon arrival at the location, and FSC-certified wood. The interior will be furnished with sustainably manufactured fabrics. They will also be solar powered in the future, adding to their sustainability as well as versatility, as they will be placeable anywhere they are needed.
As well as these public locations, they will soon be available for offices and private homes. This will be good for those of us who work from home, but on whom the lack of location change between home and work can have a negative impact. We look forward to seeing these pods popping up and giving them a try!
