Lensbuild - hassle-free lens replacement

by Startacus Admin
Glasses repair made easy thanks to Lensbuild, the Dublin-based startup that's created an affordable and convenient lens replacement service for glasses
Glasses can be pretty expensive. These are things that, ideally, we want to last for the rest of our lives. Or until we raise the money and courage to get lasers shot into our eyes. They may not break the bank, but they aren’t disposable either. When we crack or smash the lenses, it usually isn’t a simple case of throwing them away and just grabbing another pair off the shelf. They can be fixed for cheaper than a replacement pair, but even that is more pricey than we would like.
Dublin-based startup Lensbuild wants to make this repair process less expensive, less of a hassle, and retain the same level of quality as you would get from sending them into your optician.
It is a simple process: you put your now-lonely frames into a prepaid box that Lensbuild sends you and post it back to them, they fit the new lenses into the frames, and then they send them back. Easy. With no middleman and no upselling, you can get these replacement lenses for around half of what you would pay an optician to do the same. This process can be done for sunglasses as well as any kind of glasses from run-of-the-mill reading glasses, to transition lenses, to photochromatic lenses. But maybe not those hipster no-lens ‘glasses’.
It may not come as any surprise, given their business is repair rather than complete replacement, that Lensbuild takes a sustainable approach to their business. Not only does the very core of their existence mean that millions of frames (many of them plastic) are prevented from going to landfills, but any unwanted frames are sent to charities around the world. And they do their recycling.
Only in August, Lensbuild embarked upon a €100,000 seed funding round ahead of their launch into the UK. From there, they plan to expand into the US and Middle East.
