KOMPAS bags €50k as overall winner of Visa’s Everywhere Initiative at Money 20/20

We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the fab KOMPAS team over the last couple of years and we are therefore delighted to share word that their travel tech startup, which uses Artificial Intelligence to personalise the travel experience, was this week announced the overall winner of Visa’s Everywhere Initiative at Money 20/20, taking home a total of €50k in prize money.
The Digital DNA upSTART 2017 finalists KOMPAS, came up against over 300 applications, and after being whittled down to 1 of 15 finalists to pitch in the final competition, were awarded as the overall Everywhere Initiative winners at the Money 20/20 Conference in Copenhagen.
To date, over 1,500 companies from all over the world have competed in the Visa Everywhere Initiative since it was launched in the US in 2015.
This years judges consisted of Visa’s senior directors and executives, as well as guest judges such as Erez Arahoni, ICC and Birte Quitt, Erste Group.
KOMPAS CEO and winner of the competition, Tom Charman had this to say:
“I believe what made KOMPAS stand out from the other contestants, was
both a combination of the technology we’re building, but also our ability to integrate with Visa services; providing a completely personalised experience for our end user”.
The Company was established in 2015, after the founding team realised that there was a huge opportunity in the market, believing that the market had lost touch with their customers, who were placing an increasing demand on tailored, and personalised experiences.
Since then, they’ve got on to raise a round of angel investment, won multiple awards, and recently secured a partnership with London Midland, focusing on promoting regional travel between London and Birmingham, as overall winners of their London Midland Lab programme.
They now intend to use the money they won in Copenhagen, to begin operations in new cities, while running a pilot with Visa that looks into the personalisation of their customers. Their goal is to make it easier for the best of the city to get its moment in the sun, no matter the size, and advertising budget of the company in question.
Congrats Tom and the rest of the KOMPAS team - we are totally delighted for you and wish you all the best as your business JOURNEY continues - from strength to strength and city to city.
