iwoca announces the launch of free mental health support initiative for small business owners

by Startacus Admin
Ahead of World Mental Health Day, iwoca partners with Spill, to provide free mental wellbeing support sessions for small business owners in the UK.
According to new research undertaken by leading small business lenders, iwoca, only 30% of small business owners experiencing symptoms of poor mental health have sought professional help from a counsellor or therapist.
Their research reveals that the primary reason for not accessing help related to mental health was a lack of information related to tailored support. One in four owners were actually unaware that specific help for small businesses existed whilst one in five do not feel comfortable talking about mental health. iwoca’s research also revealed that 27% of small business owners believe that owning a business negatively impacts their mental health, with 61% experiencing at least one symptom of poor mental health several times a month.
Seema Desai, Chief Operations Officer at iwoca, said: “Our research lifts the curtain on the impact that running a business can have on the mental health of SME owners; and the pressures that many of them face have worsened throughout the pandemic. So we must do everything we can to ensure our coffee shops, hairdressers and electricians can access the right support – tailored to them – to help them cope with the challenges that running a business can foster.”
Now, in a bid to help and make it easier for small business owners to access the support they need, iwoca, in partnership with therapy platform Spill, is launching free video therapy sessions with trained mental health professionals for all small business owners in the UK.
Seema added: “We’ve been providing mental wellbeing support via Spill for iwoca employees for over a year – it’s one of our most loved benefits. Given what we’ve learnt about the mental health needs of small business owners, we’re now excited to extend this offering to them – to ensure they have access to the best support out there, for free.”
Hats off to iwoca and Spill teams for this fantastic initiative! If you're a small business owner and you would like to book a free therapy session, you can do so here.
Mental wellbeing in the workplace will actually be high on the agenda at our upcoming Work: In Progress event. Why don't you join us!
