It’s Upcycling (Furniture + Artists = Refound)

by Startacus Admin
People doing their own ‘thang’ is key to Startacus. So when we were told about Refound, bringing old furniture and artists together to create one off unique pieces of ‘artwork’ furniture, highlighting local artists and providing a platform for them to sell their work (oh and a pop up shop too), we couldn’t help but find out more.
Talk about the Startacus spirit... this is the Startacus spirit...
So upcycling. What is it? Well its pretty much just that. If recycling is using the same product or material again, then upcycling is making that product or material better than it was originally intended or currently appears to be. And that in essence is what Refound from Belfast does...
Jill O’Neill, Founder of Refound first got an interest in upcycling when the hoarding of furniture from her travels, led to her collaborating with local artists to upcycle the furniture into new and improved pieces of furniture.
We had heard of Refound through a recommendation, and like many ‘of the moment’ things, word of mouth seems to be doing as good a job as good ol fashioned marketing.
Not only do they now have a permanent hub space - The Refound Building in Belfast, where artists can co work, exhibit and sell, they have also started the very of-the-moment Refound pop up shop on a regular basis...
And then we thought that it was better to let the pictures do the talking. Check out this gallery of pics below, and keep in mind the next time you decide to chuck out some old stuff, what it potentially could become, when a little bit of upcycling is applied...
