IoT Cloud Platform Wia Raises €750k in Seed Funding

by Startacus Admin

We like to think we can spot a winner here at Startacus HQ - and therefore we are delighted to announce that previous Startacus startup of the week Wia, have secured a rather impressive seed investment of £750k for their leading Internet of Things cloud platform.
The seed investment round of €750k came from Suir Valley Ventures, the entrepreneur-led venture capital fund, with additional funds coming from Enterprise Ireland.
Wia is a cloud platform that enables users to build a scalable and powerful backend to launch their Internet of Things solutions. This allows developers to create a fully fledged, production ready solution in just minutes without having to worry about server management, data replication and storage. Wia provides a vertically integrated offering incorporating management, data capture and storage, analysis, control, as well as the seamless integration of additional services and devices.
In line with its strategy to become a one-stop provider of IoT infrastructure, later this year Wia plans to launch its latest product which will incorporate the world’s first off the shelf IoT billing system.
Launched in 2015 (that's when we featured them on Startacus), Wia’s award-winning cloud platform is today used by developers in over 85 countries. In addition, Wia has partnerships in place with leading technology companies including Sigfox, PubNub and Twilio, and plans to expand to the US later in the year. Today’s seed investment will be used to fund Wia’s continued global expansion and further investment into R&D of its technology platform.
In recognition of its pioneering work, in 2016 Wia was selected to join Ireland's NDRC’s LaunchPad programme - an Irish Government funded agency that was established to invest in digital companies and startup teams with the potential to grow internationally.
Wia Founder & CEO Conall Laverty, had this to say about their investment news:
“We are thrilled to bring the experience and knowledge from Suir Valley Ventures as partners with us on a milestone in Wia’s journey. The Internet of Things, through which devices communicate with each other is playing an ever-increasing role in both corporate and domestic life around the world, and we believe our platform will take it to the next level”.
We are totally delighted for Wia and Conall, whom we meet with recently when they pitched at Digital DNA upSTART 2017 (the startup pitch competition hosted by Startacus that takes place at leading two-day Irish tech & digital event Digital DNA) and it's therefore extra sweet to share their fab news.
Congrats to Conall and the Wia team and we look forward to hopefully sharing more good news on this fab Irish startup going forward. Why not drop them a tweet to say congrats too.
