There is a prize fund of £33,000 to be shared by the 5 category winners and one overall winner.
Open only to Northern Ireland residents, in teams or as individuals, entrants will need a proof of concept for their innovative idea. These should fall under one of the following 6 categories, from each of which one category winner will be selected, before the overall winner:
Agri-Science
Creative & Consumer Internet
Electronics
Engineering
Enterprise Software
Life & Health
Bangor-based Gray’s Clip was the overall winner of INVENT 2018, walking away with a prize package of £13,000 and a bespoke business trip to the United States in 2019. Gray’s Clip is a battery powered stapler to secure electrical cables to wooden joists and structures instead of hammering individually. Quicker, easier, and safer.
The other five winners in 2018 were:
Crafted Equestrian: An agritech injury prevention solution for horses.
Machine Eye: An intelligent safety device for use on tractors, plant, and heavy machinery. Machine Eye pitched at Innovation Nation 2018.
SonoTarg: Ultrasound targeted cancer drug delivery.
Go-Fyt: A smart way to find and book health and wellbeing providers. Go-Fyt pitched at upSTART 18 at Digital DNA.
Importwise: A processing system for importing goods. We’ve written previously about Importwise.
The INVENT 2019 competition offers a great opportunity for Northern Ireland’s innovators to step up and be recognised as the next ‘big thing’. So if you have an innovative product that you would like to showcase, pitch against others, and take to the next level, don’t hesitate to get your application in!
Applications close on 15 March and qualifying pitches begin in April, so you have some time get your pitch together and polished..
