2018 has been the year where fake news has become a prominent topic. Social media sites commit to doing all they can to stop it.
But what of fake reviews? Trustpilot, TripAdvisor, Yelp and so on...they all have had their problems with fake reviews. A whole restaurant was faked on TripAdvisor and became the top ranked restaurant in London.
Step forward startup Hubbite who are on a mission to combat this problem and put peoples trust back in to online reviews. Launched on the 7th of September 2018 by co-founders Daniel Hall and David Denton, Hubbite is a social network just for reviews.
Aiming to be a mixture of Instagram and traditional review sites, people can launch the app, post a review of where they are (including pictures) and these reviews then appear on a feed for their friends to see.
Among other features are a map that shows places close to your location that your friends have reviewed. Ultimately scammers online will always find a way to fake reviews regardless what website they are operating on. The only way to trust reviews is to hear it from someone you know (or know of). Hubbite is bringing word of mouth online and will also act as a point of discovery for users.
Explaining why he created the site, CEO and co-founder Daniel Hall explained: “I decided to create the site after falling foul to a terrible conveyancer I found online. Their reviews made them seem brilliant but it was only after I received the worst service of my life I realised their reviews were faked.
The negative reviews were being hidden by a stream of fake positive reviews being posted almost hourly. From that day onwards I wanted to create a solution to make reviews trustworthy again”.
We wish Hubbite all the best and look forward to seeing how their startup progresses.
