How to Market Your Popup Shop....continued
Launching your Popup Shop
Launching your popup shop can be a great way to exercise some of the marketing techniques that you plan to continue using throughout the life of your business. Specifically you will want to create a sense of excitement and intrigue around your venture.
-
Even before you open for business it is a good idea to have some shopfront signage indicating your imminent arrival. Something like ‘Popup Furniture Shop Coming soon’ will mean that regular visitors to the local area will be on the look out for when you open.
-
A launch event is a good way of creating a bit of buzz and discussion around your popup shop. It will give you the opportunity to introduce your new venture to the local community and if done right can drive people in your door! It can also create something tangible that the media can use in any articles which they create about your popup shop.
-
A short reception, giving people a chance to have a look around your shop, hear you speaking about your journey and what you hope to achieve.
-
Special introductory offers for a set period of time - this can be really helpful in encouraging people to have a look around, make a purchase and hopefully spread the word to their friends and family.
-
Remember to promote the fact that your shop is temporary. This is one of the best tools in your marketing box because it creates a sense of exclusivity and will encourage customers to have a look ‘now’ rather than risk missing out.
-
Flyers or other promotional material. These can be distributed to residences in the local area to give direct information about your popup shop or placed strategically to allow maximum exposure.
Most retailers now have at least some form of social media presence because customers love to use it as aa way of connecting with their favourite stores and businesses. Some of the main sites which you might want to consider are Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest simply because of the vast numbers of people who are members. Some of the ways you could use social media in the launch and subsequent marketing of your popup shop are:
-
Before you open your doors, spend some time creating social media accounts for your popup shop. Make sure that they give a clear and concise description of your store and the things you will sell. By doing this you can build up a community of people who have an interest in your venture to whom you can target future social media marketing.
-
Make sure that you include plenty of images of the products you will sell to give your followers a clear idea of the overall look and feel of your store.
-
Use social media to keep followers up to date with your progress as the launch date approaches, this can further create a sense of anticipation around the opening.
-
Engage with your followers to give your social media accounts a personal touch - open up discussions, ask for opinions and don’t forget to encourage them to share your content with their friends.
-
On an ongoing basis use the accounts to keep your followers up to date with special offers/promotions and new products.
-
Social Media competitions can be a great way of spreading the word about your business - have a read of our guide to social media competitions for lots of great advice on how to run a successful campaign.
-
Remember to push the existence of your social media sites whenever you can for example; on posters, flyers, receipts, press releases and anything else connected to your shop that you can think of. A social media account will be completely useless without a community of followers.
-
Have regular activity on your accounts. I know this sounds like an obvious one but lack of activity on your account for a long period of time can suggest to your audience that you a) you have nothing interesting to say, or b) have gone out of business.
