Hillary Clinton 'Ready for Action' Figure

One of our favourite things about the explosive development of crowdfunding, is that it gives people with quirky, fun and amusing ideas the opportunity to bring them to realisation, in a way that simply wouldn't have been available to them just a few short years ago.
Now we ask you, what could be more quirky, fun and amusing, than your very own Hillary Clinton ‘Ready for Action’ figure?… Very little we imagine.
Brooklyn based small product design studio FCTRY has just reached the halfway point in their attempt to raise $15,000 through crowdfunding portal Kickstarter to make their dream of producing thousands of tiny presidential candidates a reality.
According to FCTRY, she’s one plastic politician who could take on any poorly proportioned female figurine, while at the same time shoring up global security and defusing nuclear conflicts.
“She can solve any international crisis with a joke, is strong enough to wrestle Russian bears, yet cool enough to defuse any nuclear missile. Smart, bold and stylish; the world has never seen a woman quite like this… Hillary Clinton (The Action Figure)”
The whole thing is dripping with humour, as the founders of FCTRY attempt to inject a little well meaning satire into the up and coming presidential campaigns. They are certainly the right team for the job, having created mass media frenzy in 2007 during the last presidential campaigns, with their humorous diminutive reproductions of Barack Obama, of which they sold hundreds of thousands.
“During that process we got to see how little things like posters, stickers , songs and yeah even action figures can all add up to become a really huge movement, which is really handy because we really love making little things, and being part of huge movements” explains co-founder Jason. “Let’s face it; the world is ready for a Hillary Clinton action figure”.
There’s no doubt that the folks at FCTRY are big supporters of the Democrats and thus their little Hillary doll is essentially a political tool, but even we with a UK based ‘not really interested in American politics’ point of view… think it’s a really nifty idea.
‘Ready for Action Hilary’ strikes a very interesting note when considered alongside some of her more, shall we say, ‘obviously feminine’ counterparts. The arguments against unrealistic representations of beauty in children's dolls have been well and truly made, but could this be the first alternative that manages to make it into the homes of children all across America?
“She's not a ‘Doll’. She's an Action Figure and there's a good reason why” say the folks at FCTRY. Dolls like Barbie have a long history of sending out the wrong message to girls. Hillary Clinton is the antidote to that message, and this toy was designed to reflect that”.
This is going to be an interesting one to watch.
