Greenspark - climate action made easy

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on Greenspark, the startup that's making it easier to take environmental action every day - businesses and individuals alike.
We have lost count of the number of times we’ve started an article by talking about the huge, negative impact that humans or specific industries are having on the environment. This is because of the significant number of startups that are springing up all the time, dedicated to reducing and reversing that negative impact. So if that means wondering if there’s any kind of climate fact that we can open with that we haven’t used before, we’re more than happy to keep it up! Did you know that the coldest temperature ever recorded is -89.2 Celsius?
Greenspark is one such startup, and they have built a startup that encourages businesses to take climate action for every purchase by a customer, such as planting trees, cleaning up plastic from the oceans, or helping to offset carbon emissions. This not only performs an important environmental and, for the locals employed and empowered through the startup’s partnerships, economic function, but it also makes your business look a lot better to potential and existing customers.
As well as this, the startup allows businesses to set up a carbon offsetting scheme for employees, calculating plastic footprint, carbon footprint, and again results in more trees planted, and the ‘cumulative positive planet impact’ tracker makes for a feel-good team-come-togetherer. Yes.
As mentioned, these efforts aren’t just helping the environment. People actually have to plant those trees and pick up that plastic, which means employment for communities dealing with extreme poverty. Through their partners Eden Reforestation Projects, Plastic Bank, and projects supported by the UN’s Global Climate Action programmes, Greenspark is joining the ranks of startups helping to fight that poverty whilst cleaning up the environment. According to their website, they are currently sitting at 929,457 trees planted, 7,757 tonnes of carbon offset, and 1.4 million plastic bottles ‘rescued’ from the ocean thanks to the Greenspark community, which consists of over 300 businesses already.
Just recently, Greenspark announced that they had raised £1 million in funding in a seed round led by Fuel Ventures, with participation by Pitchdrive, 1818 Venture Capital, Zone2Boost, Great Stuff Ventures, QC-Ventures, and the Boost Fund. This comes after a 2021 £450,000 pre-seed investment round led by BBVA Anthemis Venture Partnership and Perivoli Innovations.
