GoodBox - The lowdown on the startup that's using digital tech to innovate the fundraising sector

goodboxFundraising can be a difficult task, hindered by all sorts of problems from suspicion of an unknown charity, to cost of making their cause known versus what they can raise, to the simplest of obstacles like shaking a collection box at someone unable to reach into their pocket because they have a coffee in each hand! We’d rather give to a GoFundMe for someone who said something funny once than to a charity that will help the disadvantaged, and when we do give, we’d rather stick to names we have already heard. All these things and more make fundraising difficult.

GoodboxManchester-based GoodBox is here to alleviate at least some of the pain. GoodBox is similar to TAP, the startup that we wrote about some time ago, combating homelessness in London.

Whereas TAP itself is a charity, GoodBox creates the technology for charities and non-profits (in fact, we’re reasonably sure GoodBox is the creator of the units used by TAP).

GoodBox creates collection boxes for contactless giving, from mini units perfect for retail point of sale, to handheld boxes for mobile and outdoor collection, to big, in-situ units for larger amounts at established locations such as museums.

goodboxThe two larger GoodBox units have HD screens to display whatever imagery, video, or messages are required. Users simply swipe to change the amount they are giving, and then tap their card or phone, and they’re done in seconds.

All of this gives more control to the giver and is more convenient for everyone. And for the trust side of things, GoodBox has created the trademark TAP TO GIVETM with an open license for qualifying charities and fundraisers, giving people a recognisable signal that what they are giving to is trustworthy.

In July this year, GoodBox announced that it was part of the 2018 cohort of GovStart, a 6-month growth programme to help UK tech startups transform the public sector.

On top of that, this month they announced that their technology has already helped UK charities to raise half a million pounds. And they haven’t even fully launched yet! So when they do launch, in Q3 of this year, we expect to see (and tap) their technology everywhere.
