Glove Love

by Startacus Admin
Sometimes bad things happen to good gloves...
...it’s a sad but inevitable part of life. We’ve all seen them, lying lonely at the bus stop or drenched and filthy by the side of the road - the most perfect of matches, cruelly torn asunder with no hope of ever being reunited. Worse still is that sinking realisation that your favourite debonaire duo has become a leather loner- “who would want you now” you think, as you consign the survivor to the rubbish bin or drawer of no return.
But at last someone has had the guts to stand up for lost gloves everywhere and provide a platform to prevent single gloves from suffering a similar fate to their partner. Glove Love is a Matchmaking service which guarantees to match single gloves with a suitable mate and then send them on their merry way to warm the hands of a brand new owner.
(Before you ask, yes this is an actual, real, hand-on-heart matchmaking service for gloves… but of course there’s a bit more to the story than that)
You see it’s all down environmental charity Do The Green Thing which uses the premise of ‘Creativity vs Climate Change’ to inspire people to be more sustainable. What we love about Glove Love is that, whilst picking a few gloves up off the street isn’t going to halt the melting of the polar ice caps, it at least encourages people to take a fresh look at their attitude to waste and perhaps reconsider what they classify as useless.
Each glove that is sent to them, gets paired up with its closest match and then hand stitched to make a whole new set! The gloves are given a label detailing where they were rescued from and then sold online for the flat rate of £5, the proceeds of which go to help pay for some of the charity’s other environmental awareness projects like films, posters, podcasts and products. Who knew that saving the planet could be so much fun!
So, next time you see a lonely little glove abandoned in your neighbourhood (or you lose one of your own and are tempted to throw the survivor away) , why not send it to Glove Love?
We give them a big thumbs up!
