‘Make it Happen’ Play for Student Entrepreneurs

ideasWe have to admit that when we first came across this particular event we cringed… a play about entrepreneurism… Really? But having given the matter some further thought we have come to the conclusion that it might actually be quite a good idea!

Written by multi-award winning social entrepreneur Junior Ogunyemi, the play follows the story of young inner-city girl Hannah Pickett who has aspirations of becoming a successful entrepreneur. After her family falls into desperate financial straits Hannah resolves herself to solve their problems by starting her own business.

The potential for this play to be cheesy is truly off the scale, but if the writing is realistic and the characters believable we think it might actually provide a worthwhile and inspirational account of the journey of setting up a business… we wait with baited breath. The play will run for one night only on the 23rd November in the Lost Theatre, Wandsworth Rd, London.

Business Essentials - Free Speed Mentoring

In Liverpool on the 21st November business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to receive 30 minutes of mentoring from for a wide range of business experts from the local area. Coming from Liverpool Vision, Bigga Business, Agent Marketing and MSIF these folks will be bringing with them a wealth of experience across a huge variety of issues. Some of the topics up for discussion include those which are of the greatest concern to startup businesses including finance, marketing, business plans, legal issues and technology. We like this idea because not only will it give small businesses a great opportunity learn from the experts but also to meet with other business in the area. All the information you will need to book your place is available on the GEW website.

The British Library

These guys have always been great supporters of Global Entrepreneurship Week and this year is no different. They have got lots of exciting events taking place at the British Library as part of the campaign, so we thought we would take a little look at a few of the ones that sound right up our street!

Startup Saturday - A fun, friendly and compact one day course aimed at people who are looking to startup their own business...great! There will be an enormous range of info about setting up and running a business on offer including; how to uncover your big idea, straightforward finance and easy budgeting techniques, the web and building a home online and loads more! It should also be a great place to make contacts and meet like minded self starters. The event will be taking place at the British Library Conference Centre and all the details can be found on the website.
Webinars - We were really pleased when we heard that these would be taking place as they are a great resource for people who are unable to get to any specific events during GEW but are really interested to learn some great tips for setting up a business. The British Library are hosting several of these events over the course of the week all of which can be easily found online, but be sure to register in advance to make sure you are able to access them! Some of the webinars which are taking place are; Guide to Business Information, first steps to creating your brand, get cash-flow confident, and social media for business. For details on the full range of online talks you should visit the website.

Future trends for business growth - On the first day of GEW the British Library have teamed up with Insider Trends to deliver an insightful morning of discussion on the future of business. On the cards will be new approaches to; concept development, manufacturing, marketing, customer service and plenty more! It promises to be an engaging event with a number of expert guest speakers. If this one sounds like it’s for you then be sure to have a look on the website for full details.

Phew...and to think all of that is just a tiny fraction of what will be taking place over the course of the week! We will be watching very closely to see how the events go, and don’t forget if you attend any why not drop us a line and tell us a little bit about what you got up to?
