Giftmybet gambles on the gift of giving

by Startacus Admin
Launching soon startup, Giftmybet aims to be the first platform that allows you to purchase bets as
gifts, with a physical gift card and betting slip delivered straight to their door. We were always odds on to cover this story ;)
Ever struggled to think what to buy a close friend or family member as a gift? Yep, us to...
Giftmybet Founder, Ed Gwynne-Harris had the same problem when he found that buying a present for his brother Tom was a real arduous task. Eventually he came up with the idea to buy him a bet. This became an even more thankless task because bookies generally have odds on things that are going on at the moment, and online accounts removed the novelty of the physical gift. Ed ended up buying Tom the only relevant bet available, Wales to win the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
That was 18 months ago.
This eureka moment of sorts, led the brothers to come up with the idea behind Giftmybet. The brothers found it remarkably odd that this wasn’t readily available on the market because betting has become one of the most popular past times for so many people.
Punters have the ability to place a bet from anywhere, on anything going on around the world, at their finger tips. Buying gift cards, lottery tickets and scratch cards as presents is already a common buying behaviour which became apparent in the brothers’ primary market research. So what about something that combines the two?
Step forward Giftmybet.
The Giftmybet platform will aim to offer even the most irregular gamblers the chance to find the perfect gift. All you will need to do is type in their favourite (or least favourite if they have a good sense of humour) sports team, and related gifts will appear.
You’ll then be asked 3 questions that will refine and tailor the results to the recipients interests, and then bingo, you can place their bet, with a personalised greeting card and bet will be delivered to their door in time for the big day.
Targeted at 18-35 year olds, Giftmybet plans not to be just limited to sports and to take advantage of spur of the moment betting and new stories. Think, Odds on 'D. Trump winning the Nobel Peace Prize'. or 'the odds on a white Christmas'.
Currently raising funds for their platform via equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs, the Giftmybet team have so far raised £60k+, with target investment set at just under £150k.
You can bet that we will be following their progress closely...
