Fluffy - making pet care more affordable and less stressful

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on Fluffy, the app offering dog training, 24/7 vet messaging and insurance to give pet owners peace of mind and support them with their pet care responsibilities.
Anyone who has had pets knows how expensive an unexpected medical emergency can be. Even simply getting an x-ray on what turns out to be nothing more than a strained leg can feel like it’s bankrupting us. That’s why most pet owners will wisely choose to get pet insurance to help cover those unexpected costs. Of course, that insurance itself can be pretty high, especially if you never need it (like most insurance). On a seemingly-unrelated note, dog training can be difficult, can’t it? That can be expensive too, if you hire a professional to help you train. So wouldn’t it be good to find a platform that can unexpectedly help you with both of these things?
London-based insur-tech startup Fluffy thinks so too, and they have created an app that has you covered for pet insurance, training, and health, all in one. You can choose from a variety of plans based on your animal and their age, and customise it to be just right for your pet. For now, the startup only covers cats and dogs, but they will be moving to cover any pet, “regardless of how big or fluffy they are”.
Setting themselves apart from other insurers, Fluffy’s plans all come with 24/7 access to vet support and treatment plans, dog and puppy training, and a range of rewards for cashing in app points. The training side of the platform allows 24/7 access to trainers, over 300 courses from world-class trainers and behaviourists, and personalised plans for your specific dog and their behavioural profile. Through these training plans, you can earn those aforementioned points, which you can then cash in for rewards. These rewards include things like access to special deals on smart collars or worming and flea treatments, free cinema tickets, free time on Netflix, free dog toys, a year of Amazon Prime membership, and much more.
Early this year, Fluffy announced that they had raised $450,000 in funding in a pre-seed round led by QVentures and Techstars, with participation from various angel investors. The funding will allow them to expand their reach, as well as move towards offering their plans to other kinds of pets.
