"I have spent the past year working for a leading Digital PR and Communications agency in London managing social media campaigns for some of the biggest films in the UK and US. Working in the industry teaches you how difficult it can be to not only get a movie made, but to make sure people know about. This is an issue due to the cost of marketing as well as a lack of resources and expertise from film makers. This realisation it was led me to create Fillm.
Fillm is a crowdfunding and discovery platform for independent film in the UK and Latin America. The site will provide artists the ability to get their productions funded, connect with an audience, and in turn give film fans somewhere to discover new talent and content. While existing crowdfunding platforms support movies, Fillm will be exclusively targeting a film audience ensuring only the most relevant users are reached.
I moved to Chile just over 3 weeks ago to explore what is a thriving startup scene here in Santiago and apply to the next round of Startup Chile with Fillm. Since arriving I have been lucky enough to meet with several film makers locally as well as securing support from leading figures in the industry in the UK, US and Latin America.
As a huge Latin American film fan I am hugely invested in the region and look forward to Fillm playing a role in supporting scene from the ground up. The next steps are to continue speaking to film makers who are interested in featuring on the site and building a strong network in Latin America, which is already well underway.
This project has come along a huge amount in less than two weeks and it has really taught me the value of speaking to potential customers/users and gauging reactions. This is the only way you will come to validate and refine your proposition so make sure you're getting yourself out there. People want to help, so talk and throw yourself into the local startup communities because you never know where it might lead.
Please sign up at http://fillm.co and help us support indie film making.
