Aimear Lynch, founder of My Pet Lamb and one of our Impacting Founders gives us the lowdown on her eco-conscious startup and business journey to date

As we draw to the close of our ‘Impacting Founders’ programme which saw Startacus support NI-based female founders, we are meeting and hearing the stories from some of the fantastic founders who participated to learn more about their startup story and journey to date.

Aimear Lynch, My Pet LambFirst up, Aimear Lynch from, ‘My Pet Lamb’

Having spent 10 years working in jewellery buying and merchandising in Belfast and London, Derry-native, Aimear Lynch decided to pursue her dream of creating a sustainable fashion business, and launched, ‘My Pet Lamb’ in October last year.  The eco-conscious clothing range uses natural materials such as organic cotton and natural wool.  The range includes, cardigans, body suits, rompers hats and dungarees.

Speaking about the ethos of, ‘My Pet Lamb’ and its origins, Aimear explains:

“My Pet Lamb has been 10 years in the making and launched during the pandemic last year after I moved home to Donegal.  I feel so connected to where I come from in the North West, and a big part of becoming my own boss was to come home to support my own sustainability.  Given my experience in the buying and merchandising world I knew the fast fashion model was broken – I was involved in buying trips to the Far East regularly to purchase items that would eventually end up in a landfill.  This simply isn’t sustainable.  For me, I wanted to build a brand that was built on the triad of sustainability, namely, making sure the products were socially, economically and environmentally viable.  It comes down to changing perceptions and education. Natural materials are better for the environment, they aren’t mass produced with cheap labour and have lower emissions.”

MyPetLamb collectionsAimear’s range initially focused on an organic cotton childrenswear range complimented by a range of traditional knits made from 100% merino wool and a hand-knit collection.  Aimear employed the skills of local women to help create the first handknit collection.

Speaking about how she is finding business and her future plans, Aimear commented:

“Starting a business is an eye-opening experience and the initial challenge was having the nerve to take the plunge and launch.  It can also be lonely when trying to run every aspect of the business.  However, the highs far outweigh the lows.   A real highlight was securing a place on, ‘Impacting Founders’ and the support that came with that - it’s so encouraging to see a diverse group of women come together with all their amazing business ideas. This is just the start of ‘My Pet Lamb’ and I look forward to seeing how we grow over the coming year. I am launching a new bespoke 100% handknit collection focusing on babies and infants in the coming weeks which will add to our offering even further.”
