The lowdown on Ev.Energy, the innovative London-based energy-tech startup that optimises electric vehicle charging...

ev.energy logoElectric vehicles are the future, right up there with artificial intelligence, holograms, and the dystopian wasteland that once was Earth. Manufacturers like Tesla are showing that electric cars don’t have to be slow, ugly, and boring, and more people are becoming interested in them. They might not have the growl of a V8, but they do have value for money.

Where our ability to make traditional engines consume less fuel is limited and we aren’t going to get much further with it now, the ability to continue to develop and evolve the power and capacity of batteries is far less limited. Who knows when the first attempt to circumnavigate the globe on a single charge will be made!

London-based energy-tech startup ev.energy thinks that the costs and impact of charging up an electric vehicle can be reduced even further.

Ev.energy picTheir software optimises electric vehicles charging and makes it cheaper and even greener by automatically capturing off-peak rates and smoothing out the peaks in EV electricity demand. Their platform is available for energy suppliers and for charge point operators, increasing use of their charge points, but also for the home.

In partnership with EV charge point manufacturer Rolec, ev.energy have released a range of smart home EV chargers that allow you to manage your vehicle’s charging through an app, at speeds of 3.6kW or 7.2kW. Among other things, the app will track your charging and show you you carbon impact, as well as the savings you are making.

In April, ev.energy participated in the Free Electrons ‘19 startup accelerator bootcamp in Dublin. In September, after pitching at the end of the programme, they were announced as the winner, taking away $200k in prize money and being awarded the title of ‘World’s Best Energy Startup’.

They are now focusing on expanding their product and partnering with utilities around the world, and we think this will be just the first win of many.
