What’s it all about?

The event will present groundbreaking technologies and allow key players from business, science, and the creative industries to forge networks.Progressive business models will be presented in four startup clusters focusing on digital topics.

This melting pot-style atmosphere has become something of a trademark for the event, which prides itself on creating an environment in which the best of creativity, technology, and innovation can be showcased and celebrated. The Center for Art and Media (ZKM) will host the first CODE_n new.New Festival in Karlsruhe The four startup worlds, workshop areas and six stages will be showcased in five light-filled, 15-meter-high yards.

Ulrich Dietz, CODE_n initiator and CEO of GFT Technologies SE described the festival:

“For three days, CODE_n will bring together select pioneers, digital visionaries, innovation teams from established companies, scientists, and of course inquisitive visitors. This really lets ‘the new’ come to life and take on its own momentum,”

What Attendees Can Expect

Conference Programme:  Attendees will be able to enjoy an extensive programme of speakers and talks across 6 stages presenting digital pioneers, disruptive technologies, the best in corporate innovation, and groundbreaking science. The former head of the German Federal Intelligence Service, Dr. August Hanning, for example, will speak about the mystery of cyber-security, while bio-hacker Hannes Sjobald will report on his cyborg activities. Christoph Keese, Executive Vice President of Axel Springer, will talk about his insights into Silicon Valley, while Armin Pohl, who’s agency won the Emmy Award for his visual effects in Game of Thrones, will deliver a keynote speech on the perception of reality in the digital age.

Europe's Leading Innovation Festival
Innovator's Area

Here, leading enterprises and startups will introduce innovative business models and technologies. Painting in 3D? No problem, thanks to virtual reality. Google is presenting exciting digitalization formats, such as the brand new Tiltbrush VR Experience.

Festival visitors will be able to learn for themselves what's already possible today. With the electric Streetscooter, HPE, GFT, TRUMPF and Vector Informatik will be showcasing cross-industry future scenarios for convenient processing. As well as this, EnBW will be providing a glimpse of the networked city of tomorrow with its multi-functional SM!GHT streetlamp. It will also be worth taking a detour to the virtual operating theater at the B.Braun booth, where the present and future of the HealthTech world will be on display.

GFT will be portraying the innovation process for the financial world on a 2 x 5-meter LED floor, enabling visitors to playfully walk through the five phases. And if there’s anyone still using cash out there, they will be able to try out the mobile payment app on a giant smartphone.

Accenture is also emphasizing the benefits of technology. For this reason, “The Holocube” installation has been created especially for the festival, challenging three-dimensional imagination and design skills in the context of a virtual reality experience. With data glasses, the consultancy firm is also demonstrating how the work of engineers is already being made easier during the maintenance and manufacture of complex machinery. Quality squared? At first glance, this colorful cube is merely an eye-catching object. But as visitors approach the Augmented Reality Cube more closely with their smartphone or tablet, whole new worlds await them.

For those who do not want to go home empty-handed, a trip to Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) may well be a good idea. They are creating a 3D image of the visitor which TRUMPF is welding onto a small piece of metal. HPE is also bringing virtual reality, industry 4.0 and connected cars to life. An IoT platform, for example, will demonstrate how cars are able to communicate with each other.

Concerts, workshops and pub crawls are being held at various locations across the city. The highlight of the cultural program will be the “Schlosslichtspiele”, where international artists will illuminate the walls of Karlsruhe’s Baroque castle with light projections to create a truly fascinating spectacle.

CODE_n Contest: One of the highlights of the annual festival is a contest featuring startups from all over the world, who have undergone a rigorous selection process to prove their mettle, and win a coveted place in the final 52.
