Ethical Investments platform Abundance raises £1.5m

by Startacus Admin

Abundance Investment, the UK’s leading peer-to-peer ethical investment platform, successfully fundraises £1.5m+ on equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs.
Abundance is a leading direct investment platform giving people control over their money. People invest from £5 in projects that generate something good for the environment and society, as well as bank-beating returns. That’s, in their words "people who want to invest for a rainy day, and would like to build a better world at the same time."
Launched six years ago, and funded to date by capital from 75 angel investors, Abundance has successfully raised £82m from its customers to finance 34 green and socially useful projects. Its customers invest through debentures (bonds), in projects ranging from farm-scale wind turbines to geothermal energy to tidal energy to social housing.
Abundance originally targeted £1.2m from the crowd, however, due to strong investor interest, the company exceeded its target, raising £1,575,586. Overall, the campaign attracted over 1000 unique investors, with the substantial majority of funds invested drawn from it’s existing customer base. The funds raised will enable Abundance to meet the demand to bring more high-quality environmental and social investments to the platform, accelerating the positive impact that the business has across the UK.
Abundance has achieved several major milestones. It launched the UK’s first innovative finance ISA for renewable energy investments on November 1st 2016. It is also the world’s first regulated peer-to-peer investment company, and was the first to offer a dedicated peer-to-peer investment SIPP.
Abundance Co-Founder and Managing Director, Bruce Davis, said: “As investment specialists, we’re especially pleased by the strong response to our own share offer, which is a big vote of confidence in our mission. As the first ever regulated practitioner of crowdfunding it’s important to us that ordinary people can join us as shareholders.
Our mission has always been to help to build a more democratic and open financial system giving people control over their money. Creating an even bigger community of investors, not only in our projects but also in us, supports our work helping the transition to a cleaner, low-carbon and socially beneficial economy.”
We wish the team an abundance of luck in 2019 and congrats on the raise.
