Dinner@7 - the online community for a shared evening meal

by Startacus Admin

Dinner@7 - the Irish startup that's tackling isolation caused by the pandemic by creating a community for sharing virtual meals and good conversation via Zoom

Isolation leads inevitably, and quickly, to loneliness and loneliness is bad for both mental and physical health. Platforms like Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, etc., are good ways of being able to keep in touch with people, but not everyone has someone to call. And even when they do, how often can you listen to your son tell you about how he hurt his back rearranging his office desk before going crazy?
An Irish team of five has come up with Dinner@7, a community for sharing meals every evening via Zoom.
Every dinner has a set topic of conversation chosen in advance so that members can choose a date based on a topic that they are interested in discussing with what could easily become a new group of friends.
The Dinner@7 team will guide participants on setting up their video call to ensure that there’s no ‘call with grandpa’ effect of only your ear appearing on screen and the sound being muted, and where necessary they will help you to find the best positioning for your webcam so that it is as close to eye contact with other diners as possible for a better sense of connection.
Dinner@7 is free for the first 100 diners, and then it will give you a choice of subscription. A free subscription will give you access to 5 dinners per month, but a €15 per month subscription will give you access to all dinner and a monthly in-person event, as well as multiple extra perks such as the possibility - upon mutual agreement - to exchange contact details with other diners.
Dinner@7 is guided by 5 principles - Togetherness, Tradition, Passion, Connection, and Communication - and these guide them and their diners to making something that seems on the surface as though it couldn’t be intimate and connected into something that makes everyone feel like they are really sitting down to dinner with friends. Because they are!
