Ryan Roddy, Derry native and student at De Montfort University wins the Prospect 100 global sneaker design competition with his military inspired corkscrew sneaker
For anyone who is not yet aware, Prospect 100 is a fab organisation and initiative that is on a mission to empower the next generation. They’ve created a platform where the creatives and talent of tomorrow can be seen, heard and of course discovered. They put together competitions where talented young creatives and innovators can showcase what they’re about before a panel of leading judges and industry leaders. Since its launch, Prospect 100 has hosted a Global Music competition, Global Innovation competition and most recently a Global Design competition.
And since the winner of the Global Design competition hails from Derry, the home of Startacus HQ, we thought it only right that we give some extra recognition to the winner of this accolade, Ryan Roddy!
Ryan is the talented young creative who won the Prospect 100 global sneaker design competition.
Aspiring designers aged 25 and under were asked to submit original sneaker designs and these were then judged by a prestigious panel which included Sean Wotherspoon, Jeff Staple, and YEEZY's Steven Smith. The panel then selected 20 designs which were then posted to Prospect 100’s Instagram account where they competed for likes from the general public. Having secured the most votes - over 3000 likes, Ryan’s design was deemed to be the winner.
Ryan’s creation was a unique military inspired corkscrew sneaker design and as the overall winner, he’ll now be undertaking a six month mentorship programme with sneaker icon, Jeff Staple, head of Staple Design.
Ryan will be embarking on this programme, in addition to continuing his studies at De Montfort University where he is currently undertaking a BA (Hons) degree in Footwear Design.
We love nothing more than sharing news about self-starters doing their own thing and getting recognition and success for doing just that. And we reckon this win is only the beginning for Ryan - he’s definitely one to watch!
