Crowdfunding funds and jobs for small business - We are the Million

by Startacus Admin
‘Kickstarter with a conscience’ is the press release tagline for the new crowdfunding platform ‘We are The Million’ (love the name) aiming to boost small business concerns in South London.
Launched last week, We Are The Million, is a new crowdfunding platform that aims to boost small businesses in South London by helping them raise much needed funds to grow and create new employment opportunities for their local community.
And this is the clincher - each of the fund-raising campaigns creates at least one new job.
For example, one of the businesses to launch a campaign is The Tea House Theatre in Vauxhall, which is running a crowdfunding campaign to purchase and install a new bread oven that will supply freshly hand made bread to their customers.
As a result, they will need an on site baker - a nice fresh baked spin on the whole crowdfunding concept and it's for that reason that you can understand why We are the Million received funding from the Nominet Trust who are fundamental in supporting many grassroots and social impact themed internet platforms.
The site, run by run by Participle, launched with seven businesses based in South London with a view to get more businesses across London and beyond on board and has already within the first 24 hours of launch seen one of its projects, namely Croydon's Cronx Brewery almost reach its funding target.
Aiming high is certainly no bad thing and whilst claims of being Kickstarter with a conscience is perhaps a rather high aspiration - a bit like that rather popular inspirational quote “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars” it’s an aspiration that's certainly worth working towards and one that Startacus is happy to support!
