Creative Mornings - A Local Idea Goes Global

by Startacus Admin
Mornings… we wouldn’t exactly say they are our favourite time of day. Granted, there is coffee (which is obviously great) but alongside it comes a serving of dreary eyes, incessant yawning, nodding heads, sardine-can style commutes and innumerable other unpleasantries which often make us wish we had never gotten out of bed in the first place!
Those of you with super-long elephant style memories will remember that around this time last year we discovered a fab global movement called Creative Mornings which promises to make the morning-time a little bit more productive and inspirational for imaginative, creative types. Here`s what they are all about and some of the exciting developments which have taken place over the past year...
In 2008 Tina Roth identified the need for an accessible and ongoing event for members of the culture community in New York. She wanted it to be convenient, free and most importantly accessible to everyone and so she finally settled on the idea of a series of inspiring and informative breakfast talks. The events were a huge success in their native city and the idea travelled fantastically well as people now gather all over the world to attend these morning events. From London to Rome, Sydney to Cape Town and many-a-place in between, like minded creatives come together over a cup of coffee and breakfast to learn and be inspired… cracking stuff!
The monthly talks have a global creative theme and their subject matter can range from topics as varied as happiness, bravery and food to urbanism and the future. It’s a great collaborative effort as each ‘chapter’ is created by the people from the local area with close cooperation from the folks in the Creative Morning headquarters.
To add yet one more delicious layer to this great idea the talks taking place are now filmed so that a permanent record of them can be kept and they can be made yet more accessible to the wider world. This desire for accessibility threw up a significant challenge however -how to put all of these fascinating talks in one place and make them accessible to all and free forever?
So what`s new?
In August 2012 Creative Mornings launched a campaign on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in order to build a searchable archive of every talk that has taken place in their chapters around the world - an endeavour which was an unprecedented success with the organization surpassing its $35K target in just one day. Earlier this year their brand spanking new website was unveiled and now anyone can pay them a visit and check out the amazing collection of videos they have amassed.
We are thrilled to learn that Creative Mornings and their community continues to go from strength to strength and find their startup story from a single location to worldwide presence a great inspiration. We wish them all the best of luck as they continue to expand and will be watching eagerly to see what exciting developments take place next!
