Coursematch makes uni course searching a tinder-styled affair

A social network that helps young people fulfil their potential by helping them with career advice and course selection has bagged a £275,000 seed round to boost growth and invest in app development.
Coursematch was launched in 2016 by Chris Worsey, 34, Edtech entrepreneur and former Parliamentary candidate, and Joe Perkins, 24, a computer science grad, after they met in a pub and talked about how they had struggled to pick an educational path and access good career advice when younger.
The Tinder-style edtech app helps users to find educational courses and allows them to meet future friends and ask the Coursematch community for career advice. More than 12,000 young people have downloaded the free app to date.
Chris Worsey said Coursematch hoped to “displace” more established social networks such as Facebook by becoming a platform where young people can “be ambitious about fulfilling their potential, form tight networks and help each other succeed without having to be a member of a clunky Facebook group."
Investor and Shazam co-founder Dhiraj Mukherjee said “my focus is helping startups which create a positive impact on society, and I am fully supportive of Coursematch’s mission to help young people make better education and career choices.”
The pair plan to use the investment to increase spending on the app, add new features and establish key commercial partnerships with brands and Universities. The funding round was led by Development Bank of Wales and seven angel investors including the Co-founder of Shazam, Dhiraj Mukherjee.
